Presentations

Practice

As with word count for a written assignment, a key part of a presentation assessment is keeping within the time allocated. The only way you’ll know for sure how long it will take to deliver is by practising

Pace

When you step 'onstage' you should feel comfortable to let a beat or two go by, take a breath, and anchor your feet before beginning.

Build pauses into your talk: pause at the end of key points; pause when a new slide appears. Let the audience take in what you say.

Projection

Imagine you are feeling confident, open up your body language – arms open, head up.

Find a conversational tone. Imagine you’re at a dinner party telling the one story of the night that will make the whole table pause. Tap into honest, contagious emotions during your talk – wonder, optimism, anger, surprise, etc.

Consider the perceived distance between you and the audience. Try not to stand behind something - this will help to connect more easily with the audience and make them more open to your delivery
