Reflective writing may be an occasional requirement on your course or it could be key feature of many assignments. Here are some ideas but you should always follow the guidelines given by your course.
Reflective writing involves reflective thinking.
- It is a response to a new situation, aspect of learning, new information, an event or experience.
- It doesn't just describe. It evaluates and analyses.
- It explores reasons, implications and helps make sense of a situation and create meaning.
- It challenges original perceptions, understanding, biases and assumptions.
- It draws on evidence and theory to relate to the situation and own practice.
- It justifies decision making and actions taken.
- It comes up with an answer to "So what have I learnt here? What do I need to do now with this new learning? What next?".
