A guide to writing reports

Planning your report

One way to do this is:

  1. Write out your headings and subheadings. These are going to be used to guide your reader.
  2. Think about what information will be included in each section and the main points that you want to make. What do you know and what do you need to find out? What are you main findings and why are they important?
  3. Group similar points together
  4. What evidence do you need and where will you use it?
  5. Where will your images, tables or figures go?
  6. By looking at your plan, do your key messages stand out?
