Research & Finding Information

Find, evaluate and manage information effectively

Top Tips for research and finding information

Begin your research by looking at reading recommended for your programme. If you discover a useful resource, look at its reference list too - this will lead you to further sources on the topic.

Use your subject guides to discover key resources and other material for your topic.  You can find these on the library website.

You can use Wikipedia as a springboard for your research. It can be helpful for understanding the context of your topic, discovering new sources or identifying useful keywords.

However, it is an encyclopaedia - so don't cite it!

Remember, researching is more than just searching.  You are exploring your topic and this takes time.

Research can feel messy and meandering in the early stages. Allow yourself enough time for your initial ideas to develop and change. Make sure you reflect on chance discoveries and explore connected ideas.

It is very easy to get lost when researching - or feel overwhelmed by the volume of information you discover.

There are apps and systems which can help you to collect and organise your research.  Try free products such as XXXXXXXXX
