Teamwork Models, Theories and Tools

Collaborative working through group projects and presentations is a big part of learning at University and very much a 'transferable skill' that you can carry with you into the workplace and your professional career. You will often be asked to individually reflect on how you have contributed to group projects and how you have developed your teamwork and leadership skills through written assignments at University and also in job applications and interviews!

This guide looks at some well-known models, theories and tools for teamwork and collaboration. These are intended to help you get the most out of team projects.

Although many of these models were developed back in the 1960s and 70s, they are still widely used and referenced today (and you may well come across them in the workplace). The reason for including them in this guide is that they help us understand the dynamics at play in teamwork; and provide a shared language to discuss working together.
